Discovery Freelancer Mod 4.88.1 - Come play while we wait for Star Citizen!

GROUP OF RANGERS PLAYING DISCOVERY FREELANCER MOD:

In an attempt to wait for Star Citizen, we have decided to play one of Chris Roberts' older space games. Its a space sim, multiplayer RPG, sandbox, PVP and PVE game. Almost MMOish. Its a classic and not one to be missed if you've never heard of it or played it. There is no better time as it is free and your friends are playing it! Here are detailed instructions to get you installed and on the server with us in about fifteen minutes (including download time). Yay, free/awesome space games!

I'll put steps with generic instructions for advanced users in italics like this.

And then details for folks that haven't done many ISO game installs or mod installs in normal font, like this.

Step1: Download the ISO (virtual CD) from the following link

Step2: Mount the ISO with Daemon Tools, and run Setup.exe

Details: Download Daemon Tools Lite - get the free version

decline the option to install their free software in the installer.

With Daemon Tools running, mount the Freelancer ISO(virtual CD), it should autorun setup.exe off the "disc" and install the base Freelancer game. Don't update the game.

Step3: With the base game installed, download and install the mod "discovery_4.88.1-a04b20.exe"

Details:Run the installer exe "discovery_4.88.1-a04b20.exe" you just downloaded.

During the install wizard, point the installer to the Freelancer install folder (default is in programfiles)

Step4: Run the DSLauncher.exe file that is located in the mod folder you just created with the install. (make a desktop shortcut to this launcher, rename it Discovery Freelancer and put the other "Freelancer" desktop icon in the recycle bin)

Details: When it finishes, open the "Discovery Freelancer 4.88.1" folder (not the game install, but the mod folder) and find DSLauncher.exe, make a shortcut to this on the desktop by right-clicking and dragging it to the desktop and select, "make shortcut". Rename it to "Discovery Freelancer". Place the old Freelancer desktop icon in the Recycle Bin. Run the new shortcut to boot up the launcher. After the updates finish, launch the game.

TIPS:

When in game, adjust the audio, its super loud at first boot.
Then click Multiplayer. Choose, "yes", and then choose "Internet" not "LAN"

Let it find servers
Then select the server "Discovery Freelancer 24/7 RP" its the fullest server usually, and is the official server that is run by the mod authors plus it is the only one we play on.

Then get on TS, and let us know you would like to join our group! GAME ON!
